The Team That Sews Together

Yesterday morning, Boreas’ Creative Director—Tae— called the team down for an impromptu get-together on the first floor of our warehouse. He gathered us around one of the worktables and told us that we were all going to learn to sew. Um, awesome. We weren’t quite sure what to expect, but we listened eagerly as he laid it down for us.

Day one of Sewing 101 with Tae entailed everything from using the right scissors to threading needles. We all looked on in amazement as we learned the basics of a craft which such rich history. Sewing is one of the oldest of the textile arts, after all. The team has quite the array of sewing experience—some us had never even picked up a needle before! Needless to say, Tae had his work cut out for him.

Mary takes the sewing machine for a spin... Er, maybe it was the other way around.

Once we went over the ins-and outs and picked out our favorite fabrics—it was time to saddle up at the machines. We each had a go with some of our slower, more basic sewing machines to get a hang of the flow and where to and not to put our fingers.

Sewing 101 with Tae will continue next week so stay tuned! We will also be taking classes as a team at Workshop on McAllister Street with the lovely Kelly Malone. See you soon Kelly!
